The film incorporates unique and unusual audio decisions including human vocals used for many of the sound effects and the sound mix being entirely in Monaural. The film is based on the manga of the same name, which is in turn based on a short story by Tatsuo Hori, a writer, poet and translator from mid-20th century (Showa period) Japan. Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) is the voice of the main character, Jirō Horikoshi. The Wind Rises (, Kaze Tachinu) is a 2013 Japanese animated historical fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The roadshow poster's tag line reads, "We must try to live." The film opened on 454 screens across Japan in roadshow release on 20 July 2013. During the WWII years, the Miyazaki family business manufactured aircraft parts, including the windshields and rudders used on the Zero. Based on Miyazaki’s own manga and the 1937 short novel of the same name by Tatsuo Hori, this is the story of Jirō Horikoshi ( 堀越 二郎, Horikoshi Jirō ?), the aircraft engineer most remembered for his design work on the Mitsubishi A6M Reisen “Zero”, Japan’s famous World War II fighter aircraft.
